Carving Demo at Wharton Esherick Museum

 

David was born in North Wales, PA in 1955 and worked for the postal service for 32 years.  After retirement he began to focus more time and energy on his art work.  He studied art in high school and began carving relief and 3 dimensional sculptures.  

He is self taught with occasional mentoring.  He has been mentored by the following artists: Charlotte Dubroff, Hatfield, PA; Sam Ingram, Sun City, AZ; Dave Fischel, Sedona, AZ;  Zarco Guerrero, Mesa, AZ; Cehpas Agbemenu, Kenya, Africa.

 

He has always been inspired by the natural beauty of wood.  In his work, he tries to assist in enhancing as many wood qualities as possible.  David considers himself an emerging artist.  He is currently developing his proficiency with hand tools such as adzes and draw knifes to enable him to work in larger scale without the use of power tools.

Profile
David is skilled in relief and three dimensional sculptures.   Focuses on accenting the natural form and utilizing the wood grain to aide in creating his works.  He prefers to work with hand tools such as gouges and adze.
